We joined this tour after the Ukraine tour, by travelling on these railcars from Nyiregyhaza to Mátészalka, Hungary. MAV 376-513, built by MAVAG in 1921, on display at Mátészalka. Logging trains are pulled by a collection of diesels, this is CFF 87-0032-0 (L45H class) waiting to leave Viseu de Sus. The daily despatch board. Our trains never left on time! 0-8-0T 764.408(R) 'Cozia 1', built by Reghin in 1985, running towards Cozia. 0-8-0T 764.408(R) 'Cozia 1' at the km 11.4 water stop. End of the dual gauge track at Viseu de Sus. L18H 001 'Cristina' gathering empty bolster wagons at Viseu de Sus. The loading point at Poiana. Horses used to make up the train with loaded timber bolster wagons at Poiana. 0-8-0T 764.421 'Elvetia', built by Resita in 1954, departing Viseu de Sus. This took part in most of the steam tour of the North & South Islands by the Mainline Steam Trust, the Dunedin Station Centenary, plus other railways and side trips. Truly the 'Great Britain' of the southern hemisphere, New Zealand is a wonderful and very friendly country to visit. The scenery of the South Island is truly magnificent. 2-6-2 SU 251-86, built between 1947 & 1951, on a charter freight train between Ivano-Frankovsk and Kalush. 0-10-0 Em 735-72, built between 1931 & 1935, on a charter freight train between Kolomyja and Zalishziki. Night On-Shed scene at Kolomyja with 0-4-0T b2137 (thought to be built by Beyer Peacock in 1932), Em 735-72 & Er 797-86. A typical Ukrainian village. Em 735-72 pilots 2-10-0 L 5141, built between 1945 & 1955, between Rachov and Deljatin. A 2M62 double drive units diesel, which was used to push the steam locomotives to the next runpast. A single drive unit operating from 2M62-1088. This shows that the single drive unit has only a cab at one end! 0-10-0 Er 797-86, built between 1947 & 1957. Horses have just bolted, and one middle of shot runs passed us on the left out of control, you can just make out the driver falling out of the sledge! 2-10-0 Ea 2026, built between 1944 & 1947, out of use at Kolomyja. Narrow gauge 0-4-0 GR 286 at Beregevo. Sadly this loco blew a tube before our arrival, so we had to contend with burning a tyre in the smokebox for a little smoke effect. Station Mistress on the Narrow Gauge line!

Singapore's magnificent and historic art-deco station in Keppel Road, opened to passengers in 1932. Inside of Tanjong Pagar railway station. FMSR stands for Federated Malay States Railway. Premier Class ticket for Ekpres Rakyat (ER2) from Singapore to Sentral Kuala Lumpur (fare SGD68 / approx £25). FMSR Class O4 No. 564.36 ' Temerloh' at Gemas station. 'Temerloh' is a station on the Malaysian East Coast line (The 'Jungle' line) from Gemas to Tumpat. 'Temerloh' is the last operational KTM steam loco (last reported steamable in 2006), built by NBL in 1946. Superior Night Class ticket for Ekpres Langkawi (EL8) from Sentral Kuala Lumpur to Butterworth (fare RM38 / approx £6.50). The 'Bridge'. Spotlights, Guard towers, etc. are part of the set used for the Sound & Light Show during the River Kwai Bridge Festival. River Kwai Bridge Festival. This is commemorating when the 3 spans were bombed in 1945 closing the bridge. When the bridge was rebuilt after WW2 the 3 broken spans were replaced by the 2 spans seen here of a different design. No.171 (wrongly carries No.175), a North British Locomotive number 21140, built 1918, displayed at the War Museum near the River Kwai bridge. Minthamee (meaning 'the princess') is the last remaining Paddle Steamer of the former Irrawaddy Flotilla Company, still with its steam engine. Beautifully restored to its former glory in 2002, it was renamed R.V. Myat Yadana, meaning 'a noble treasure'. Sadly the restoration owner could not keep up with loan interest payments, so it was sold in September 2006 to a new owner, and is to be renamed R.V. Empress Manisandar, meaning 'ruby moon'. A lot of the restoration work has been removed, and it sits idly on the banks of the Ayeyarwaddy at Nyuang-U, awaiting better times in Myanmar again.
